Department of Immuno-Hematology and Blood Transfusion provides clinical services to support patients in need of blood component therapy, cellular therapy, therapeutic aphaeresis, and specialized laboratory diagnostics. We are having latest state-of-the-art Immunohematology Reference Lab and offer MD degree in Immune-Haematology and Blood Transfusion.

The aim of our department is to provide high-quality patient care and hospital services, to pursue research that contributes to our knowledge and practice of transfusion medicine and related technologies, and to provide advanced training in transfusion medicine.

Our blood bank is one of the largest blood banks in the NORTH INDIA collecting approximately 30000-32000 units annually.

SCOPE OF SERVICES

  • Screening for Transfusion Transmitted Infections (TTI) by Fourth generation ELISA and NAT_PCR
  • Leukoreduced Blood &Blood Components
  • Cryoprecipitate
  • Washed RBCs

SCREENING FOR TRANSFUSION TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS BY ELECTRO CHEMILUMINESCENCE IMMUNO ASSAY (ECLIA) & NUCLEIC ACID TESTING (NAT)

TRANSFUSION TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS

  • Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
  • Hepatitis C (HCV)
  • Hepatitis B (HBV)
  • Syphilis
  • Malaria

NUCLEIC ACID TESTING (NAT)

Department of Immuno- Haematology and Blood Transfusion takes pride in being the first blood bank in the state of Punjab to completely implement Nucleic Acid Testing (NAT) for each activity.

It is an advanced test that detects the viruses like HIV, HCV and HBV , if they were present in the blood of a donor , thereby reducing the window periods of such diseases from weeks to few days.

This test when combined with the ECLIA being done at our blood bank ensures that our patients get the best possible quality and safest blood.

CARE FOR THALASSEMICS

Working hand-in-hand with various NGO’s, Our blood bank is providing high quality care to over 300 Thalassemics children from all over Punjab. In order to reduce the Cytomegalovirus exposure, we provide leukoreduced blood to these children.

VOLUNTARY BLOOD DONATION CAMP

We organize about 125 voluntary blood donation camps annually and collect approx. 15,000 units along with spreading awareness about the benefits of blood donation to general public.

4th GENERATION FULLY AUTOMATIC ELISA

LEUKOREDUCTION

Removal of donor WBC’s from the donated blood using advanced integral Filter bags and internationally standardized techniques leads to reduced incidents of transfusion reactions & infections like Cytomegalovirus

THERAPUTIC PLASMA EXCHANGE

The basis for therapeutic aphaeresis is to reduce the patient’s load of a pathologic substance to levels that will allow clinical improvement in conditions like Myasthenia Gravis, Multiple Sclerosis, Auto – Immune and Rheumatic Diseases, Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura etc.

DIRECT/INDIRECT COOMBS TEST

DIRECT/ INDIRECT Coombs test is used to detect the antibodies or complement proteins that are bound to the surface of red blood cells in the disease such as:

  • Hemolytic Disease of the Newborn (HDN)
  • Hemolytic Transfusion Reaction (HTR)
  • Autoimmune and Drug – Induced Haemolytic Anemia (AIHA)
